Paramount Primal Developing Film Adaptation of Nick Cutter’s Terrifying Novel ‘The Troop’
Paramount Primal has acquired the rights to Nick Cutter’s terrifying novel, ‘The Troop, which reads like a nasty ‘Lord of the Flies’.
Things are about to get very gross at Paramount.
That’s because Deadline reports that the studio’s new genre label, Paramount Primal, is in development on a feature film adaptation of Nick Cutter‘s 2014 novel, The Troop.
The Troop “follows a troop of boys who, while on their annual scout camping trip, encounter an intruder who unleashes something far more terrifying than any campfire ghost story. As fear spreads, a brutal struggle for survival begins, turning the boys against the infected… and each other.”
Chris Basler is penning the adaptation.
Cutter’s novel won the James Herbert Award for Horror Writing. I’ve read it, and saying it’s damn good undersells it. It’s one of the nastiest, most disturbing novels I’ve read, largely because most of the gruesome violence deals with kids. It’s Lord of the Flies, the extreme nightmare version.
Disgusting is sort of the norm for Cutter’s work (and I mean that in the best possible way). Alongside The Troop, I’ve also read The Deep and Little Heaven. All three feature grotesque, chilling stories that I haven’t been able to shake from my mind. Of them, I like The Troop the best. If this adaptation is executed as well as it can be, trust me when I say…we’re in for a memorable horror pic with this one.
Lyrical Media (Onslaught) is producing, with Tracy Rosenblum overseeing the project for Paramount Primal.
