Hammer’s Uncut ‘Dracula’ Gets a Blood-Red 4K Collector’s Edition With Footage Missing for 68 Years

The Count is coming, and Hammer Films is going all out for his return.

Back in May, we reported here on Dread Central that Hammer had pulled off something pretty extraordinary: the long-lost, uncensored version of Terence Fisher’s 1958 Dracula, released in the United States as Horror of Dracula, had finally been reconstructed and restored in 4K.

This is the version starring Christopher Lee as Count Dracula and Peter Cushing as Van Helsing that audiences were never supposed to see again.

As we previously reported, more than three minutes were removed from the film for being too bloody, violent and sexual. The complete version survived theatrically in Japan, but the material was considered lost for decades. Crucially, pristine reels of that Japanese version were eventually discovered in Warner Bros.’ archive, allowing Hammer and Silver Salt Restoration to reconstruct the film from significantly better materials than those used for previous restorations.

Now we finally know exactly how Hammer is bringing it home.

The company has unveiled a massive seven-disc Limited Collector’s Edition containing five different versions of the film, approximately 15 hours of new and archival bonus material, a 200-page book, a 60-page House of Hammer comic reprint and a pile of physical extras.

And then there’s the fucking Blood Edition.
