‘A Man in the Woods With an Axe’ Lands 2027 Release, New Trailer [Exclusive]

Independent horror filmmaker Dillon Brown has announced that his latest found-footage feature, A Man in the Woods With an Axe, has officially been acquired by Louie La Vella and FOUND TV and will be released as a FOUND Original in early 2027. You might remember the project from earlier this year when Dread Central shared some exclusive first-look and behind-the-scenes images. A Man in the Woods With an Axe is a found-footage meta slasher that intentionally presents itself as one thing on the surface before revealing itself to be a very different animal once the layers are peeled back. It’s a bloody love letter to 1980s horror cinema, blending practical gore, slasher mayhem, and dark comedy. Tonally, it sits somewhere between Friday the 13th and The Truman Show thrown into a blender, with comedic elements reminiscent of Tucker & Dale vs. Evil and a wild, escalating second half that channels the energy and unpredictability of The Cabin in the Woods.

Brown describes the project as his “most ambitious” to date, shooting on weekends around full-time schedules with a meager budget of just $10,000. Brown adds, “Making the movie for $10,000 forced us to get creative, and honestly, that’s part of what I love about independent horror. Dustin and I built a lot of the effects ourselves, and Cody created a fantastic puppet effect for us. We wanted everything we possibly could to physically exist in front of the camera. There’s a handmade quality to the horror movies we grew up with, and we really wanted to capture some of that spirit.”
