Focus Features’ dystopian sci-fi thriller Hot Spot is expected to make the jump from theaters to digital platforms on September 8, 2026.
The date hasn’t been officially announced by Focus Features just yet, but Showtimes.com currently lists September 8 as the film’s digital release following its theatrical debut on August 21.
Directed by Agnieszka Smoczyńska (The Lure, The Silent Twins) and written by Robert Bolesto, Hot Spot stars Andrzej Konopka, Noomi Rapace (Prometheus, Alien: Covenant), and Reika Kirishima.
“In Hot Spot, set in a near future society ruled by sentient A.I., a private eye investigates a murder case only to discover a rebel group capable of undermining the digital overlord. As the detective’s identity slowly unravels, his world enters a state of hypnotic meltdown.”
Konopka stars as Djonny, the private investigator at the center of the story, while Rapace plays Rana, a mysterious rebel leader whose presence begins to upend his understanding of the world around him.
“Bogged down a tad by sluggish pacing and a convoluted story, Hot Spot nevertheless fascinates through hypnotic style and a strong commentary around A.I. that begs us to remember we are human beings, not machines,” Matt Konopka wrote in his review.
Hot Spot is rated R for strong violent content, gore, sexual content, graphic nudity and brief language.
