Universal Pictures’ campaign for Other Mommy is officially in full swing, with a brand-new promotional spot making the rounds on social media ahead of the film’s October 9 theatrical release. I’m still convinced this thing is going to be massive.
The first trailer was nothing short of spectacular, loaded with scares, and director Rob Savage (Host, The Boogeyman) apparently has plenty more waiting for us. As I reported here on Dread Central, Savage told Entertainment Weekly that the movie contains “Oh, like 50” jump scares, depending on how you define one.
The new spot offers another taste, sprinkling in creepy new footage that includes a great scare shot of Jessica Chastain (It Chapter Two) as Other Mommy. And that closing moment, with Chastain asking, “Can I go into your heart?”, is such a perfectly unsettling way to send us off. Everything Universal has shown so far has me completely sold.
Based on Josh Malerman’s novel Incidents Around the House, the film follows eight-year-old Bela, whose already troubled family faces a terrifying new problem when an entity emerges from her closet. The presence she calls Other Mommy wants permission to take up residence inside her.
Jay Duplass (Transparent), Arabella Olivia Clark (Springsteen: Deliver Me From Nowhere) and Dichen Lachman (Severance) also star.
Check out the new spot below.
