The Mandela Catalogue is heading to the big screen on June 9, 2028, with Deadline reporting the summer release date for the YouTube horror adaptation from United Artists, Amazon MGM Studios, and Amblin Entertainment.
As we previously reported, United Artists’ Scott Stuber and Amblin’s Steven Spielberg (Disclosure Day) secured the rights alongside Amazon MGM following a bidding war involving eleven studios.
Launched in 2021, The Mandela Catalogue takes place in the fictional Mandela County, Wisconsin, where shape-shifting, nearly immortal creatures known as Alternates invade the community.
Series creator Alex Kister will direct the film from a screenplay he adapted with Tyler Clifton.
Spielberg and Holly Bario are producing for Amblin Entertainment, alongside Aaron B. Koontz for Paper Street Pictures and Stuber and Nick Nesbitt for United Artists. Kister and Clifton also produce.
The adaptation joins Hollywood’s growing rush to turn internet horror into theatrical hits following the success of Curry Barker’sObsession and Kane Parsons’Backrooms. That includes Zach Cregger and Brian Duffield’sadaptation of Trevor Henderson’sSiren Head.
With Spielberg in the mix, this is one we’ll be keeping a close eye on.
