James Cullen Bressack is back with what looks to be one of the most uncomfortable, visceral films of the year. I Have Proof premieres this week at Fantastic Fest, and if the teaser is any indication, this one is not for the faint of heart.
The teaser is deeply VHS-soaked, calling back to its own influences, most notably the V/H/S franchise, and films like Henry: Portrait of a Serial Killer. It looks to be shot largely from the killer’s perspective. It’s gritty. It’s stalkery. It’s really fucking uncomfortable. Uncomfortable filmmaking at its best.
Written and directed by Bressack, the film follows Alex, who has proof — and needs you to see it. I Have Proof is described as a psychological descent where reality is never quite what it seems.
As festival writer Ahbra Perry puts it in her write-up, “If you look at James Cullen Bressack’s IMDb, you will see 51 directing credits and 196 producing credits. I don’t know how many films qualify for someone to be considered prolific, but at only 34 years old, either the kid just keeps slapping his name on shit or he legitimately never stops working.”
The film stars relative newcomers Larsen Deane and Lily Van der Meer, alongside Bressack regulars B.J. Hendricks, Kay Day, and David Josh Lawrence.
And if Perry’s closing line tells you anything: “If you miss when found footage actually felt dangerous, this is for you. It totally fucking hits.”
