The Mistress of the Dark is taking on a different kind of Halloween nightmare.
Tubi has released the full trailer for R.L. Stine’s Pumpkinhead 2, which premieres October 9 as part of its “Terror on Tubi” celebration. Cassandra Peterson (Elvira: Mistress of the Dark) joins the sequel as a mysterious witch helping defend the town of Redhaven against a new wave of supernatural terror.
I haven’t seen the first Pumpkinhead, but this looks like a really fun gateway horror movie. It’s goofy, silly, and packed with the kind of spooky creature effects that would have had me glued to the television as a kid.
There’s a lot of Goosebumps and Are You Afraid of the Dark? energy here, and I mean that as a compliment. I grew up on the latter and really enjoy the Goosebumps movies. Based on this trailer, I could absolutely see myself having a good time with this one, too. It looks like something parents and their horror-curious kids could enjoy together.
There’s even a little Evil Dead flavor to the setup, with a forbidden book unleashing a curse and sending the undead crawling out of the ground. Their own Book of the Dead, essentially. Never trust the creepy book!
Inspired by R.L. Stine’sThe Haunting Hour, the sequel reunites Sam (Bean Reid) and Becka (Adeline Lo) as a bullied student named Evan discovers a book that resurrects the pumpkin-headed children of past sacrifices.
Peterson’s witch, appropriately named Cassandra, understands the ancient magic threatening Redhaven and may be the town’s best hope of stopping it.
Jem Garrard returns to write and direct after helming last year’s R.L. Stine’s Pumpkinhead.
Check out the trailer below. Between the creatures, the Halloween atmosphere, and Peterson getting witchy, this looks like a fun addition to the October watchlist.
