What Is Zach Cregger’s ‘The Flood’ About? We Already Have the Plot Details

With Resident Evil celebrating its massive box office opening, Zach Cregger’s next movie, The Flood, has become a topic of conversation on social media following his comments about the sci-fi project during the press tour.

But if you’ve been keeping up with Dread Central, you’ve known what this one is about for months. We already broke the plot details exclusively, and with everyone talking about it again, here’s a reminder.

Dread learned it’s very Alien-esque, following a deep-space captain who leads her crew to investigate a cryptic signal from a distant world, only to uncover an alien artifact that warps time, reality, and their sanity, forcing them into a confrontation with an incomprehensible intelligence.

This past February, we told you that Barbarian, Weapons, and Resident Evil director Zach Cregger’s next project, titled The Flood, was being shopped around town.

Warner Bros. subsequently announced at CinemaCon that it had not only acquired the sci-fi thriller but had also fast-tracked it, with plans to release it in theaters on August 11, 2028.

The project reunites him with his Weapons producers Roy Lee and Miri Yoon of Vertigo Entertainment and, interestingly, has him working with avowed Cregger fan Steven Spielberg. The latter’s Amblin Entertainment is also producing Flood.

The project was originally set up at Netflix. And while the filmmaker’s previous projects have been modern-set horror thriller freakouts, this one is described as being very much in the science fiction mold.

A mysterious signal, an alien artifact, and a crew losing its grip on reality? Hell yes.
