Belmont Cameli has joined Sydney Sweeney in Sony’s ‘Hollow’ adaptation of Washington Irving’s classic tale from Lindsey Anderson Beer.
Belmont Cameli (pictured above in Until Dawn) must be losing his head right now, because he’s been cast in Sony’s The Legend of Sleepy Hollow adaptation starring Sydney Sweeney (Immaculate), simply titled Hollow, reports Deadline.
For those who maybe don’t recall, the original Sleepy Hollow was published by Washington Irving in the 1800s and follows Ichabod Crane, a man who happens upon the town of Sleepy Hollow, where a headless horseman wreaks havoc.
The tale is a bona fide classic, with multiple adaptations, including the 1999 endeavor Sleepy Hollow from Tim Burton (an underrated gothic Halloween treat, if you ask me).
The new story is told from the perspective of Katrina Van Tasselblend (Sweeney). It will blend gothic atmosphere, psychological intrigue, and erotic thriller elements into a contemporary, high-concept reinvention of the classic tale.
The project is based on Lindsey Anderson Beer‘s (Pet Sematary: Bloodlines) debut novel. She will also direct and produce.
LuckyChap and Sweeney’s Honey Trap banner are producing. Alexandra Banks and Spencer Walken will executive produce for Beer’s Lab Brew banner.
I’ve always loved this story since I first read it around Halloween in elementary school. While I can’t say I loved Beer’s Pet Sematary take, she does display a taste for gothic horror that should translate well.
Beer’s novel is set to be published by Putnam, an imprint of Penguin Random House, in Fall 2027.
