One of the coolest pieces in the preview footage is Freddy’s television from Dream Warriors. It looks amazing, and this is an actual piece of the movie’s effects history: the Academy announced its acquisition of the animatronic Freddy Krueger television and control box earlier this year.
Seeing that thing preserved and displayed alongside generations of other monsters is pretty spectacular.

That last one alone is a reminder of one of the most shocking images in modern horror. Apparently, even a museum visit isn’t going to let us escape it.

Variety’s preview gallery offers another look inside, including Pinhead from David Bruckner’s Hellraiser, a Pennywise sculpt and bust alongside Georgie’s boat, and costumes representing Candyman, Halloween, and Scream.
What really gets me is the range. You can go from classic creature work and Frankenstein imagery to Midsommar, Weapons, and Terrifier’s Art the Clown. There’s so much filmmaking history here, and so much incredible work by the artists who physically brought these nightmares to life.
The museum’s official announcement also confirms a restored cape worn by Bela Lugosi in Dracula, production materials from Alien, The Thing, The Fly, and The Substance, and a cabinet of slasher masks and weapons. The exhibition ends in a Blood Room devoted to cinematic blood. Of course it does.
There’s even a haunted living room where visitors can explore the original Blair Witch Project marketing website, which we covered separately.
The museum is also accompanying the exhibition with screenings and events, including a John Carpenter retrospective, an October 24 Monster Mash, and a November 19 screening of Carrie with Sissy Spacek (Carrie) celebrating its 50th anniversary.
If you’re in the area, this looks like an absolute must-see.
The Academy Museum is located at 6067 Wilshire Boulevard in Los Angeles. Regular museum hours are 10 a.m.–6 p.m., Wednesday through Monday, with Tuesdays closed. General admission is $25 for adults, $19 for seniors, and $15 for students 18 and older with valid ID; visitors 17 and younger receive free admission. The museum advises parental guidance for The Horror Show.
