‘Ghost in the Cell’ Exclusive Clip Twists Hands and Turns Stomachs in Joko Anwar’s Latest

Well, this is fucking disgusting.

Joko Anwar (Satan’s Slaves, Impetigore) returns with Ghost in the Cell, and our exclusive clip offers a particularly nasty reason to catch the Indonesian horror-comedy when Well Go USA brings it to theaters October 2.

Inside a prison cell, a man approaches a figure standing in the corner with the apparent intention of assaulting him. That turns out to be a spectacularly bad idea.

When the figure turns around, his face and shoulders are covered in disgusting holes and what look like wriggling parasites. Whatever is happening to this guy, you really don’t want to touch him.

Unfortunately, his fellow prisoner doesn’t get much choice.

The figure grabs his hands and twists them into a fucking pretzel, snapping bones before introducing a pair of spikes. Those go through his victim’s hands and into his eyes, leaving him covered in blood and screaming.

It’s absolutely disturbing, and exactly the kind of nastiness I’m here for from Anwar. Check out the exclusive clip below.

The film takes place inside a high-security prison controlled by rival gangs and a tyrannical warden. When a new inmate arrives, a series of gruesome murders leaves bodies arranged in morbid displays. With an otherworldly killer roaming the prison, the inmates must put their rivalries aside to survive.

And apparently, there’s a surprisingly big heart beneath all that spilled blood.

In her four-star Fantastic Fest review of , Dread Central’s praised the film’s combination of solidarity, humor, and “some of the nastiest and most graphic kill sequences of the year.” This clip certainly makes a compelling case for that last part.
