‘Happy Death Day Tree’: Jessica Rothe Reveals Working Title for the Third Movie

We’re still waiting for Tree Gelbman to get another day, but Jessica Rothe (River) has revealed what she and Christopher Landon are calling her potential return: Happy Death Day Tree.

Honestly, how could they not?

While promoting Beware Boiúna during her September 23 Reddit AMA, Rothe thanked fans for continuing to ask about the third film and shared an encouraging update.

“All I can really say is that Chris and I are going to keep pushing to bring it to you. He and I have come up with a story that is so filled with scares, heart, and laughs (and so Tree). We love how much all of you love her and want to do right by her. So fingers crossed.”

Then came the title:

“Also, working title: Happy Death Day Tree
Because how can we not?”

It’s a pretty perfect continuation of the wordplay that gave us Happy Death Day 2U. Now we just need the movie.

As we reported earlier this month, Rothe told Deadline at TIFF that she and Landon had sat down together and worked out the entire story. The remaining hurdle was getting Universal and Blumhouse to fund it. That update didn’t include a production or release date, and her latest comments make clear they’re still pushing to get it made.
