After expanding its limited release this weekend, Magnolia’s Never After Dark will arrive on VOD and digital platforms later this month, arriving on October 27, 2026.
Written and directed by Dave Boyle – who was recently tapped to direct a remake of the J-horror classic, Pulse – Never After Dark stars Moeka Hoshi (Shōgun) as Airi, a wandering medium who helps restless spirits move on while accompanied by the ghost of her dead sister, Miku (Kurumi Inagaki).
Airi is summoned to an isolated country house to perform an exorcism, where she encounters a grotesque entity unlike anything she’s faced before. Digging into the history of the house only uncovers something worse, ultimately leaving Airi hunted by a threat that may not be supernatural at all.
The film also stars Kento Kaku, Mutsuo Yoshioka, Bokuzō Masana, and Tae Kimura.
And there’s already some serious hype behind this one. Never After Dark won the Grand Jury Prize for Feature Film at the 2026 Overlook Film Festival.
In Dread Central’s SXSW review, Chad Collins praised Hoshi’s performance and the film’s scares, though he found its competing horror elements didn’t fully come together. “For a good scare or two, it’s worth checking into,” he wrote.
Magnolia Pictures released Never After Dark in theaters on September 25.
