A badass female warrior wielding a chainsaw deserves a Texas Chain Saw Massacre homage. And Jim Rugg has delivered a phenomenal one for Daniel Warren Johnson’s upcoming Chainkata.
Third Eye Comics just revealed its exclusive variant cover for Chainkata #1, priced at $29.99 and limited to only 400 copies worldwide. Rugg’s artwork pays tribute to Tobe Hooper’s horror classic, with the comic’s warrior queen, Luma, raising her chainsaw overhead against a sun-blasted yellow background.
It even includes a hilarious little warning in the corner: “CAUTION: There are scenes in this comic that may be disturbing to some members of the public.”
The huge red lettering, the pose, the distressed look, that caution label. It’s a phenomenal, must-own cover.
Johnson’s popularity has been blasting off between Transformers and his Absolute Batman Annual, including that intense viral cover and Batman breaking Nazis’ arms. Now he’s returning to his own original world with Chainkata, and the variant covers are coming fast.
As we previously reported, the Image Comics series follows Luma, a chainsaw-wielding warrior queen searching for an unknown power in the vastness of space. She wants peace, but violence and terror keep chasing her through every black hole.
Image pitches the series as Princess Mononoke meets Warhammer 40k, with the first issue delivering 40 pages of story without ads. Chainkata #1 arrives November 18, 2026. The standard edition costs $3.99; Third Eye’s limited Rugg cover is the $29.99 shop exclusive.
