“The new governess is all the rage.”
Letterboxd has shared a new poster for Victorian Psycho, and it’s a truly eye-catching, upsetting look at Maika Monroe (Longlegs, It Follows). Her screaming face practically fills the entire image, with that wonderfully appropriate tagline running across it.
Bleecker Street releases the gothic horror film exclusively in theaters November 13, 2026.
Directed by Zachary Wigon, Victorian Psycho stars Monroe as Winifred Notty, an eccentric governess hired to care for two children at a remote English manor. Her arrival brings increasingly disturbing events that leave the household questioning just who they’ve invited into their home. Virginia Feito adapted her own novel for the screen.
We’re big fans here at Dread Central. In his four-star Cannes review, Josh Korngut praised Monroe’s work as a career-best performance, calling the film “a vicious, funny, beautifully made swing.”
I quite enjoyed it, too. As I wrote when we shared the first clip, it’s quick, witty, funny, and gory, with Monroe pretty much Looney Tunes right out of the gate.
The cast also includes Thomasin McKenzie (Last Night in Soho), Ruth Wilson (The Little Stranger), Jason Isaacs (A Cure for Wellness), and Jacobi Jupe (The Black Phone 2). The MPA rated the film R for “strong bloody violence and brief sexual material.”
