Johnny has a date for his next massacre.
In a Violent Nature: Part 2 opens exclusively in theaters on February 12, 2027, as revealed today during Shudder’s New York Comic Con panel. Ry Barrett, who returns as masked killer Johnny, surprised fans with the announcement.
The sequel already made its world premiere as a secret screening at Fantastic Fest last month, and I can tell you that Johnny has some absolutely monstrous kills waiting for you.
As I wrote in my Fantastic Fest reaction, this franchise really scratches that Friday the 13th itch. The woods, the counselors, the hulking killer tearing through anyone unfortunate enough to cross his path. Taking Johnny to summer camp feels like the natural next step, and the sequel gets wildly inventive with what he does once he arrives. The festival version still felt like it needed work, but the sheer audacity of some of those kills had me excited about where this series could go.
Picking up immediately after the first film, Part 2 follows Johnny to a summer camp where a young outcast is forced to spend the night with his counselor sister and her friends during their annual end-of-season party.
Bad night to get stuck at camp.
Nate Wilson and Chris Nash co-direct, with Nash also writing the screenplay. Peter Kuplowsky, Shannon Hanmer, and Nash produce.
In Dread Central’s review, Mary Beth McAndrews was mixed on the move away from the original’s experimental approach, but praised the practical effects and described the sequel as having “some of the best kills of the year.”
The first In a Violent Nature earned approximately $4.23 million domestically and $4.56 million worldwide. Its unusual approach to following the killer, paired with some unforgettable carnage, gave horror fans a new masked monster to get behind.
