Universal Pictures is moving lightning fast on River, and after seeing the trailer ahead of Other Mommy, I completely understand […]
Written and directed by Joshua Giuliano, River follows three estranged siblings who reunite to scatter their father’s ashes along a remote river. When their boat breaks down, they become stranded and stalked by a killer. Max Mattern plays the younger brother, while Dane DiLiegro (Prey) plays their tormentor.
There’s a lot flying by in that trailer, so I grabbed a few screenshots for a closer look at River’s backwoods nightmare. Take a look below.
Originally announced as a Shudder Original Production with a theatrical release through Independent Film Company, the movie caught Universal and Blumhouse-Atomic Monster’s attention after its TIFF premiere. Dread Central reported on the developing deal last month, and now we’re already watching the theatrical campaign get going.
Matt scored the film 3.5 stars in his TIFF review, praising its performances and dread while taking issue with some of the tonal shifts.
“It’s a movie that begs to be watched with a crowd,” he wrote.
We also recently learned its MPA rating: R for “strong bloody violence, some grisly images, and language.”
Obviously, trailers are trailers. I haven’t seen the movie yet—I missed the midnight screening at Fantastic Fest because I was falling asleep—but the festival enthusiasm had already made this a priority.
Now, after that trailer, I fucking cannot wait.
