Even the apocalypse can’t cancel Halloween.
Dread Central has an exclusive two-minute clip from Hallowarrior, Shudder’s new home-invasion horror film starring Milly Shapiro (Hereditary), and you can practically smell the fall breeze coming off the footage.
Shapiro plays Pumpkin, a Halloween-obsessed survivor who believes she’s the last person on Earth. In the clip, she sends out a broadcast talking about the holiday she still celebrates, hoping someone out there might be listening. She even tells potential visitors where to find her.
Unfortunately, that invitation is going to reach the wrong people.
It’s a great introduction to Pumpkin’s loneliness and her determination to keep celebrating, while setting up how a vicious group of scavengers finds its way to her doorstep. The film looks fantastic, and that authentic Halloween atmosphere is a big part of the appeal for me.

Hallowarrior premieres October 16 on Shudder.
Ben Sottak wrote and directed the film, which also stars Ajani Russell (Skate Kitchen), AJ Bowen (The Signal, A Horrible Way to Die), and Shannyn Sossamon (Sinister 2, One Missed Call).
“This is a throwback to the crowd-pleasing genre films I grew up watching every Halloween,” Sottak previously said. “The movie is dripping with nostalgic fall atmosphere, cheer-inducing kills, and a lovable ‘final girl’ played by the brilliant Milly Shapiro.”
In her 3/5 review out of Tribeca, praised Shapiro’s performance and the seasonal production design, while noting some weaknesses in the screenplay. Still, she wrote, “Sottak has created a world so spooky and nostalgic that I wasn’t ready to leave when the lights came up.”
