I don’t know how Lionsgate landed on Beware Boiúna and fully committed to it, because I still can’t get the title out of my mouth. I attended the world premiere at Fantastic Fest and kept referring to it as “the snake movie,” “Mike’s movie,” or “that Beware the Snake movie” when talking to people afterward. Some of you probably have no problem saying it. I’m apparently not one of those people.
It’s frustrating when you’re excited about a movie and can’t even tell somebody its name. And it’s a shame, because Mike P. Nelson’s giant snake horror film is actually pretty fucking great.
Now you’ll have a chance to catch it at home as Lionsgate is expected to release Beware Boiúna on digital purchase and rental on November 3, 2026.
We’ve followed the title changes from Titan to Boiúna: Legend of the Amazon to its final incarnation. Whatever you call it, the movie deserves a look. To me, it feels like its own thing rather than another giant snake movie recycling what we’ve already seen. There are some really great surprises and set pieces, and I was a pretty big fan of it.
The film follows a medical mission into the Amazon that becomes a fight for survival when an enormous ancient predator reclaims her territory. Jessica Rothe (Happy Death Day), Kiana Madeira (Fear Street), and Logan Marshall-Green (Upgrade) star, with Nelson directing following Wrong Turn and Silent Night, Deadly Night.
Our own Matt Konopka gave it 3.5 out of 5 in his Fantastic Fest review, calling it “the meanest, bloodiest, scariest giant snake film to ever slither onto screens.” He had issues with the pacing and supporting characters, but praised how genuinely frightening Nelson makes the creature.
If you’re not ready to pack Halloween away once October ends, this is a pretty good way to keep the horror going for another week. A giant snake palate cleanser. Just don’t ask me to say the title out loud.
