‘Jennifer’s Body 2’ Is Happening “Imminently,” Says Diablo Cody

Diablo Cody has finished writing Jennifer’s Body 2, and she’s teasing a return that will dig deeper into the loneliness behind Jennifer Check’s monstrous transformation.

Speaking on Petticoat Revolution, in an episode exploring Mary Shelley and the women who create monsters, Cody described the sequel as happening “imminently.”

“I can’t talk about it too much, but, you know, we’re doing a sequel of this movie, like imminently. And I felt like in the new movie, I was able to explore even more about why Jennifer is sympathetic and what she’s been through. And there is absolutely, to me, like a loneliness and a poignancy to that character that people don’t always recognize.”

That’s the interesting part here. Everybody remembers Jennifer at her most powerful, but Cody wants to spend more time with the person underneath all of that. When the conversation turned to whether Jennifer was intended to be sympathetic or simply a mean girl turned monster, Cody was clear.

“Jennifer is a sympathetic character for me. Before and after the transformation. I mean, she is very isolated. She’s very lonely. She’s very insecure.”

Cody also praised Megan Fox for capturing both Jennifer’s confidence and the moments when she’s completely depleted, describing the character as “a shell of herself.”

“And to me Megan played both of those sides of Jennifer so well.”
