Rob Jabbaz is bringing his brand of ultra-violence from The Sadness to Crossed, and this teaser gives us a pretty good idea of just how mean his next movie is going to be.
Written by Garth Ennis (The Boys, Preacher), who created the comic with artist Jacen Burrows, Crossed looks deeply transgressive and conceptually very much in the same territory as The Sadness. A mysterious pandemic strips the infected of every inhibition, unleashing their cruelest impulses. Marked by a cross-shaped rash across their faces, they turn civilization into a nightmare that a small band of survivors must navigate.
It’s a perfect little tease of what we can expect, promising that Jabbaz will once again turn the insanity up to ten. I’m anticipating a nonstop bloodbath of nasty gore and carnage, and even this brief glimpse is pretty fucking mean. A man raises a sledgehammer over a child, making it clear that nobody is off limits. Just a fraction of that shot made me queasy.
‘THE SADNESS’ director Rob Jabbaz is back with ‘CROSSED,’ and the first NSFW teaser looks fucking mean. Garth Ennis adapts his own comic about a pandemic that unleashes humanity’s cruelest impulses. Full details: [https://t.co/HXKFYVsVIz] https://t.co/pVlKnUeSbJ

There’s a place for mean-spirited horror, and The Sadness certainly found its audience. Our own Drew Tinnin described it as “a relentless onslaught of mayhem and bloody murder at a frantic pace” in his Fantasia review. That sounds like a pretty good filmmaker to bring this particular comic to the screen.
The cast includes Devin Druid, Ash Santos, Bob Morley, and Fedor Steer.
The teaser carries the STX Studios banner, although a release date hasn’t been announced yet. With the American Film Market coming up next month, hopefully we’ll hear more soon. I’m pretty excited to see how far Jabbaz takes this one.
