‘Spirit Tasting’ – ‘WNUF’ Creator Returning with New Year’s Eve-Themed Horror Film!

Chris LaMartina‘s WNUF Halloween Special remains an annual revisit for me. A spoof of 80s Halloween specials complete with fake commercials, news, and a ghost hunt that goes very wrong, the film oozes October vibes and feels like sinking into a warm, candy-filled pumpkin. Now, it sounds like LaMartina is bringing his talents to New Year’s Eve with his new genre flick, Spirit Tasting!

Along with some fresh images, Variety reports that the filmmaker is directing the film for Terror Vision Original Productions.

Described as “A post-punk riff on The Monkey’s Paw“, the film “follows three former punks (Sean Doherty, Melissa LaMartina and Trevor Wilhelms) as they toast their late bandmate at a distillery on New Year’s Eve. When a strange sommelier (Matt Lake) invites them to a top-shelf tasting, they discover there’s only one catch: Every bottle requires a ‘wish.’ But as each of their desires twists into doom, these old friends discover that every pour at the Red Bat Distillery comes at a deadly price.”

LaMartina co-wrote the script with Michael Varrati. If Varrati’s name sounds familiar, it’s because he’s an uber-talented regular at Fangoria. He wrote the last few Fangoria Chainsaw Awards, as well as directed , a film with one scene I have not and will never forget.
