Obsession was this year’s surprise horror hit, grossing over $500 million worldwide despite a meager $750,000 budget. Hit isn’t even the most apt – phenomenon is perhaps a better choice of words. In our review of the film at the 2025 Toronto International Film Festival, we wrote, “Curry Barker’s debut, Obsession, is about to change the horror game forever. It has all the thoughtfulness and precision of early A24, but it’s delivered without an ounce of pretense or overthinking.”
On May 7, 2027, Barker’s Anything But Ghosts will release courtesy of Focus Features. Starring Barker alongside co-writer Cooper Tomlinson, the film follows two paranormal investigators who run afoul of the real thing. Bryce Dallas Howard, Aaron Paul, Violet McGraw, and Chris Reinacher also star. The film is alleged to be set in the same universe as Obsession. I wonder if the same could be said for Mama Bear?
