Watch Art the Clown’s Brutal ‘Dead by Daylight’ Finishers [Spoilers]

Art the Clown is a cultural icon at this point, and as far as I’m concerned, he deserves a spot on the slasher Mount Rushmore alongside the greats.

As we reported yesterday, Dead by Daylight: Terrifier is now playable through the Steam Public Test Build, ahead of its full release on November 24. Art has joined the game as a Killer, and Sienna Shaw is coming along as a Survivor, which was a pretty amazing surprise.

With Art come finishers, and now you can watch his brutal executions in action. Spoilers for the kill animations below.

I’ve gotta say, these are pretty tame compared to what Damien Leone conjures up for the movies. Probably for the sake of time, although that’s just my assumption. Here, Art delivers a relatively quick burst of violence, and it’s over.

He smashes heads, brutally beats someone with a spiked weapon, and breaks a bottle before jamming it into his victim’s face. All Art the Clown-worthy kills. They’re fucking fantastic.

But what makes Art’s movie kills so distinctive is how he fetishizes pain, pushing the violence beyond the point of exploitation and into comedy. It becomes so over-the-top and ridiculous that you start laughing at how much further he’s willing to go.

You don’t quite get that escalation in these finishers. You get the nihilism and the brutality, but I keep imagining what Art would do after the animation ends. What’s the next horrible thing he’d come up with when the kill should already be over?

That extra step is what’s missing for me. With that said, seeing him unleash this kind of carnage in Dead by Daylight is still pretty incredible.
