Dread Central is premiering the full four-minute version of Patches, a new horror short from Jesse Blanchard and Portland-based studio Puppetcore, made in partnership with Public Storage.
The short will also appear in Season One of Scary Good, the hosted horror shorts anthology on Be Afraid TV. Watch Patches below.
According to the filmmakers, Patches was filmed over three days on location with a five-person crew. With no power outlets available, the production ran entirely on batteries. Its custom puppet, Teddy, required more than 20 hours to build, and Michael Richard Plowman composed the original score.
“Patches was our first sponsored spot, and we decided it had to stay true to what Puppetcore is: puppets, gore, and practical effects,” Jesse Blanchard explains. “Every drop of blood is felt and fabric, and there’s zero CGI.”
Public Storage’s support also helps fund the completion of Puppetcore’s feature Frank & Zed, which follows two monsters who depend on each other to survive. Dread Central previously shared exclusive stills from the production.
