Maika Monroe (Longlegs, It Follows) introduces the final trailer for Victorian Psycho, which arrives in theaters next week on Friday, November 13, from Bleecker Street. And this one gives away some pretty big moments.
A devious and delightful horror comedy set in 19th-century England, Victorian Psycho has a little American Psycho in its blood. Monroe plays Winifred Notty, a governess who arrives at the remote Ensor House with some deeply disturbing impulses she’s trying to keep under control. Members of the household soon begin disappearing.
As I wrote when we shared the first clip, I quite enjoyed this one. It’s quick, witty, funny, and gory, with Monroe out of her mind from the start. She brings the madness into the house. Watching her attempt to pass as a suitable employee is part of the fun.
The final trailer leans into that beautifully, continually repeating her promise that this won’t be like the other times.
Of course it won’t. It’s going to be worse.
It’s a really funny trailer, but it also unloads a bunch of major sequences, including Winifred killing a baby. That’s a hell of a thing to put in the marketing, although the studio already went there with those dead-baby popcorn buckets we shared earlier this week. Eating popcorn out of a baby’s gutted torso was certainly one way to get people talking.
Zachary Wigon (Sanctuary) directs from a screenplay by Virginia Feito, adapting her own novel. The cast also includes Thomasin McKenzie (), (), and ().
