This is the kind of thing you used to find buried in the special features on a DVD or Blu-ray.
Peacock has shared a nearly nine-minute Crystal Lake featurette that goes behind the scenes of the first season’s insane practical effects, and it’s an absolute bloodbath. Wall-to-wall footage of the effects being built, tested, and unleashed on set, with the cast and crew explaining how they pulled it all off. It’s rare to see a studio share this much spectacular stuff in one video.
Major spoilers for all eight episodes follow, including the finale. The video gives away just about everything.
Showrunner Brad Caleb Kane, who also discussed the series’ creative kills in our interview, helps introduce the work alongside the cast and effects team. What comes through is the heart and passion behind it. These are Friday the 13th fans getting to build their own corner of that world, and you can feel how much they care.
The footage gets into everything from a machete hitting a replica head to a jaw being ripped away before a trip into the fryer. That fryer, by the way, was filled with tea to get the color of dirty cooking oil. There’s also a closer look at the expanding medical instrument used in Pamela’s first kill, with a prosthetic neck designed to let its prongs push through the skin.
This is exactly the shit I used to spend hours watching on DVDs. The builds, the tests, the crew making it all happen. Whatever you thought of ‘CRYSTAL LAKE’, the passion in this video is incredible. Finish the season before watching the full 9-minute-long video here: [https://t.co/kwQvzlp9sW]

We previously covered Kane’s explanation that every kill began with practical effects, with occasional digital enhancements. Here, you get to see why that matters: the performers have something physically there to hit, fight with, and react to.
