There may be some good news for Marvel’s Blade after all.
Following earlier concerns about the game’s future, Bloomberg reports that Ubisoft and at least two other gaming companies have made offers to acquire developer Arkane Lyon from Microsoft.
Xbox has also considered selling the studio to its management. No agreement has been reached, but an Xbox spokesperson confirmed the company is exploring options ahead of a December deadline.
The part Blade fans will want to hear: a deal would likely allow Arkane to finish the game. Bloomberg reports that it is expected within the next year or two, although that’s a reported estimate rather than an announced release date.
Revealed in 2023, Marvel’s Blade is a mature, single-player, third-person game from the studio behind Dishonored and Deathloop. Its original story sends the Daywalker into a quarantined section of Paris, where vampires have forced residents to shelter indoors after dark. We previously covered Todd Howard’s encouraging update on development before the studio’s uncertain future became the bigger story.
Meanwhile, the movie side remains a separate mess. Mahershala Ali’s long-delayed solo film never got off the ground, as we covered in September’s report. Earlier reporting suggested Blade could instead appear in Midnight Sons, but that remains a reported direction rather than a confirmed replacement movie.
