Today marks the 10-year anniversary of Michael Dougherty’s Krampus, which almost single-handedly put the mythical Christmas demon from Alpine folklore on the map as a cinematic boogeyman. Krampus had been gaining pop culture popularity in the years before his big screen debut, but it was Dougherty’s film that turned Krampus into a horror icon.
The box office success of Dougherty’s Krampus opened up the floodgates for horror movies centered on the holiday beast, many of which have been unleashed in these past ten years.
The catch? They’re mostly all low-budget indie affairs that are collecting dust on Tubi. But with Krampusnacht headed our way tomorrow, we wanted to knock off some of that dust and shine a spotlight on the many Krampus movies that have come along in the past ten years.
Some of these are pretty wacky, one featuring a fully computer-generated Krampus while another bizarrely focuses on a female killer in a Michael Myers mask. Because why not?!
