Taye Diggs (House on Haunted Hill) and R&B singer Tamar Braxton will star in Stepfather, which is slated to premiere on Tubi in 2026.
The thriller is not billed as a remake of The Stepfather — but it may as well be. This synopsis will surely sound familiar to anyone who’s seen the 1987 cult classic:
“After years of eradicating any family that falls short of perfection, Darnell believes his new wife Asia and her daughters might finally be the real deal. That is, until tensions rise and they uncover his deadly pattern. Now, getting rid of them won’t be as easy as he planned.”
Diggs plays Darnell, a survivor of childhood abuse whose unresolved trauma turns into a twisted quest to recreate the perfect household he was once denied.
When Asia, played by Braxton, and her daughters don’t meet his expectations, Darnell takes charge by eliminating them to start the search again for his ideal family.
Currently in production in Los Angeles, Stepfather is directed by Chris Stokes (You Got Served) from a script he co-wrote with “Sister, Sister” actor Marques Houston.
Footage Films is behind the project, with Diggs and Braxton serving as executive producers.
