Six years after the most recent installment in the saga, the Men in Black franchise is showing signs of life again with a brand new movie in development, Deadline reports today.
The outlet reports, “while no talent is attached yet, Bad Boys For Life writer Chris Bremner is on board to pen the next installment in the sci-fi comedy franchise.”
“Plot details are unknown, but insiders tell Deadline that the idea is once Bremner has finished the script, Will Smith would be one of the first to receive it in hopes he would reprise the role of Agent J,” Deadline’s report continues. “It is unknown how the character would be featured — whether it’s a starring role or more of a supporting/passing-of-the-torch type role we have seen in films like Creed — but the plan is to have the character back in the first draft.”
The billion dollar Men in Black franchise kicked off back in 1997 with director Barry Sonnenfeld’s original blockbuster starring Will Smith and Tommy Lee Jones. All three returned for sequels in 2002 and 2012, while the franchise got something of a reboot in 2019 with Men in Black: International starring Chris Hemsworth and Tessa Thompson in the leading roles.
The long-running franchise centers on a secret government agency that monitors extraterrestrial life on Earth. Stay tuned for more on the next Men in Black movie as we learn it.
