A gory shark thriller set amidst World War II, Beast of War will stream exclusively on Shudder beginning January 16.
The Australian film is written and directed by Kiah Roache-Turner (Wyrmwood, Sting).
When their boat is sunk while crossing the Timor Sea during World War II, a young troop of Australian soldiers must find a way to survive the harsh seas on a quickly shrinking life raft.
Hundreds of miles from anywhere, they must confront interpersonal conflicts, enemy attacks, and the advances of one very large, very hungry great white shark.
Mark Coles Smith, Joel Nankervis, Maximillian Johnson, Lee Tiger Halley, Sam Parsonson, Tristan McKinnon, and Sam Delich star.
Formation Effects handled the movie’s special effects, utilizing a mix of prosthetics, animatronics, puppetry, and CGI.
Meagan Navarro wrote in her review, “A familiar historical account gets an invigorating reinterpretation in Beast of War, one that places equal weight on every single vital component, from the soldiers to the breathtaking animatronic shark.”
Roache-Turner is currently working on another World War II monster movie, Dogs of War.
