The festival poster for Grind shows a steaming takeaway coffee cup with blood spilling over the rim and running down the side, paired with the ominous tagline “The American Dream Just Clocked Out.”
Grind is a horror satire anthology from Brea Grant, Ed Dougherty, and Chelsea Stardust that had its World Premiere at this past weekend’s SXSW’s Midnight section, and celebrated a handful of positive reviews.
The film tackles the modern work landscape and anxieties of late-stage capitalism through four interconnected perspectives: the hustle culture of a multi-level marketing company, or MLM; the endless repetitiveness of a food delivery driver; the online horrors faced by a content moderator; and the unionization of a familiar-feeling coffee shop.
The ensemble cast includes Rob Huebel, Barbara Crampton, Vinny Thomas, Jessika Van, Christopher Rodriguez-Marquette, James Urbaniak, Courtney Pauroso, James Paxton, Ify Nwadiwe, and Aubrey Shea.
