Co-star Heather Graham has teased a modern twist to Mike Flanagan’s upcoming “Carrie” series based on the classic novel by Stephen King.
We recently learned that Mike Flanagan‘s “Carrie” series will debut this Fall on Amazon Prime Video. And in a new interview with Collider, co-star Heather Graham teased a modern new take on Stephen King‘s 1974 novel of the same name.
Said Graham, “I have seen the first three episodes, and they’re great. They bring in an aspect of social media bullying and guns in school, so they try to modernize it, and I do feel like he captures the essence of what makes Carrie great.”
Carrie has always been one of my favorite King stories. As a kid, I was bullied relentlessly, and seeing myself in someone like Carrie was one of those vital moments that reminds you you’re not alone out there. Tackling the modern age of online bullying is the perfect way to put a fresh spin on King’s classic while examining bullying issues affecting the younger generation at this moment.
Summer H. Howell stars as Carrie White in the eight-episode series as a misfit high-schooler who has spent her life in seclusion with her domineering mother. After her father’s sudden and untimely death, Carrie finds herself contending with the alien landscape of public high school, a bullying scandal that shatters her community, and the emergence of mysterious telekinetic powers.
Samantha Sloyan, Siena Agudong, Alison Thornton, Thalia Dudek, Josie Totah, Arthur Conti, Joel Oulette, Amber Midthunder, and Matthew Lillard round out the cast.
Aside from Graham, recurring guest stars include Kate Siegel, Michael Trucco, Katee Sackhoff, Rahul Kohli, Crystal Balint, Danielle Klaudt, Tim Bagley, Tahmoh Penikett, Mapuana Makia, Naika Toussaint, Delainey Hayles, Cassandra Naud, and Rowan Danielle.
Flanagan serves as writer and showrunner in addition to directing select episodes. Amazon MGM Studios produces.
