Radial Entertainment has acquired exclusive North American distribution rights to the original sci-fi feature Signal One from Motion Pictures Exchange (MPX), Variety reports.
It’s hard to tell how far this leans outside of sci-fi, but the premise sounds like it escalates pretty heavily once contact is made.
“When tech billionaire Sam Houston hires the brilliant computer scientist Annika , she ventures to an isolated facility run by the brilliant, nihilistic creator of LITTLEMOUTH, a machine which can communicate with alien intelligence. Annika soon learns some humanity-altering facts: that we are not alone in the universe, that alien intelligences are communicating around us at every moment, and that we are likely too primitive to even remotely understand what they are trying to tell us. But when the goal of the endeavor shifts from listening to talking back, the project rapidly devolves into chaos. With contact comes consequences, and soon Annika and the team must work to ensure the very survival of our species.”
The film is written and directed by Jonathan Sobol (A Beginner’s Guide to Endings, The Baker) and stars Isabelle Fuhrman (Orphan) and Josh Hutcherson (Five Nights at Freddy’s), with David Thewlis and Dennis Quaid also appearing.
Radial Entertainment will distribute the film in the U.S. and Canada, covering theatrical, home entertainment, and ancillary rights for cross-platform releases. Producers are Doug Murray and Nicholas Tabarrok.
