‘Scream 8’ officially appears to be on the way, with the Zuckerman sisters attached to write the script after the massive success of Scream 7
Huge news this afternoon as Deadline reports that Spyglass is developing Scream 8, with Lilla and Nora Zuckerman (“Poker Face”) attached to pen the script. When will they ever learn, Ghostface always comes back if you don’t double tap or even triple tap them.
The move follows the massive success ofScream 7, which saw creator Kevin Williamson return (this time as director), setting a new franchise record after raking in more than $200 million worldwide.
This should come as no surprise. Despite the criticisms of the most recent sequel–our own Josh Korngut called it “frustratingly safe and confusingly predictable”–controversy over Spyglass’ firing of Melissa Barrera and a proposed boycott of the film, the franchise clearly still remains wildly popular, at least based on the box office. As long as fans have an appetite to watch Ghostface slay, we’re going to see that pale mask wreaking havoc on the big screen.
What does come as a surprise is the hiring of the Zuckermans, who are certainly an unexpected choice. Though the two aren’t known for their work in horror (they wrote the “Buffy the Vampire Slayer” reboot pilot we’ll never see now), “Pokerface” has been a huge hit, and the duo is clearly talented. Plus, the idea of bringing in some fresh blood is exciting, as perhaps it means we can expect something a little different from the franchise compared to what we’ve seen in the last decade. Time will tell.
The Zuckermans would also be the first women to pen a Scream film, which is neat.
At this time, plot details are unknown. We’ll be watching to see if Spyglass once again makes a call to Never Campbell to star.
