Universal Pictures is giving out early holiday presents at CinemaCon, unwrapping the very first trailer for Violent Night 2, which brings David Harbour back as Santa Claus and Tommy Wirkola to direct.
The big surprise is that the trailer revealed Kristen Bell (pictured below in Pulse) is playing none other than Mrs. Claus in the follow-up, being described as “Die Hard 2. Violent Harder,” where “Mrs. Claus shows up to help slay.”
TheWrap provides a lengthy description of the trailer, writing, “We saw a first look at Violent Night 2, with David Harbour returning as a hyper-violent Santa Claus. The only problem is Santa has lost his powers because he has lost his Christmas spirit. As Santa tries to rediscover himself at a mall, he soon comes face-to-face with people who want to kill him while he’s de-powered.
Continues the outlet, “The action looks creative and fun, with Santa getting used to being powerless. One fight scene takes place on a floor keyboard similar to Big. Another sees Santa cut out a slice of a man’s face with a cookie cutter. He then breaks his finger punching the man. At the end of the trailer, Santa is reunited with Mrs. Claus, who kills a man to save him.”
“Santa is barely feeling like Santa, working at a mall,” adds Brandon Davis. “Chaos ensues, including a gingerbread man cookie cutter yanking a chunk of a man out. Kristen Bell is a bad ass Mrs. Claus. Looks wild, fun. MJF is briefly in the teaser, too.”
Said ScreenRant, “Kristen Bell makes an epic sword-wielding entrance as Mrs. Claus in the Violent Night 2 trailer played at CinemaCon.”
Sounds like Violent Night 2 will be delivering a lot more of the bloody same (complimentary). I, for one, cannot wait to see Kristen Bell kick some ass as Mrs. Claus.
In Violent Night, a team of elite mercenaries breaks into a wealthy family compound on Christmas Eve, taking everyone inside hostage. But the team isn’t prepared for a surprise combatant: Santa Claus (Harbour) is on the grounds, and he’s about to show why this Nick is no saint.
