One reason Parker Finn is unlikely to return to direct the third Smile is that he’s currently prepping a remake of the 1981 classic Possession, which quietly added two major stars to the cast.
Hiding within an article on Vanity Fair was news that The Substance breakout Margaret Qualley and Callum Turner (Green Room, Victor Frankenstein) will star in the new take that is also being penned by Parker.
The original pic follows a woman who begins exhibiting increasingly disturbing behavior after asking her husband for a divorce. Suspicions of infidelity soon give way to something much more sinister.
Robert Pattinson is producing via his production company Icki Eneo Arlo along with Vertigo Entertainment’s Roy Lee (Weapons, Crystal Lake).
Banned upon its original release in 1981, Andrzej Żuławski’s film starred Isabelle Adjani and Sam Neill.
The film follows a spy who returns home to find his wife exhibiting increasingly disturbing behavior. Adjani won Best Actress at the Cannes Film Festival for her performance. To this day, it’s considered to be one of the greatest horror films ever made.
