Conway died at the age of 73 after battling cancer.
The creator had an enormous impact on the world of comics. Not only was he involved in the creation of Werewolf by Night and The Punisher, but he had a hand in writing for numerous comic book characters ranging from Spider-Man to Ms. Marveland Iron Man. Some of his writing accolades include creating the iconicBatman villain, Killer Croc, Jason Todd (the second Robin), as well as killing off beloved Spider-Man character, Gwen Stacy, in “The Night Gwen Stacy Died”. He even wrote the first issue of Marvel’s The Tomb of Dracula.
Those accolades alone would be enough to rest a career on and feel great about it. But that hardly scratches the surface of Conway’s contributions to comics.
Conway also served briefly as Marvel’s Editor in Chief during the mid-70s, bouncing back and forth between DC and Marvel following that run.
The impact that Gerry Conway had on the world of comics cannot be overstated. His stories gave fans characters that we still marvel over today. Heroes and villains that have resonated with readers for decades. He has influenced countless creators, and he will be sorely missed.
