‘Hocus Pocus 3’ is officially in the works at Disney, with Bette Midler, Sarah Jessica Parker and Kathy Najimy returning!
Yes, witch. Grab your broomsticks and get ready to party with the Sanderson sisters once again, as Deadline reports that Hocus Pocus 3 is officially in early development from Disney Live Action Studios, with the trio of stars, Bette Midler,Sarah Jessica Parker, and Kathy Najimy, returning to reprise their roles as the witchy villains.
Despite Hocus Pocus 2 arriving exclusively on streaming, the outlet notes that a theatrical release is expected this time around.
A third film was announced back in 2023. But Hocus Pocus 3 ended up in the grave when Sean Bailey, former President of Walt Disney Studios Motion Picture Production, left in 2024.
Directed by Kenny Ortega, the first Hocus Pocus rose up in 1993 and became a Halloween staple for young audiences. About a group of kids who accidentally awaken three witches and must team with a talking cat and zombie to stop them from stealing the souls of children, my sister and I watched it endlessly.
The sequel received a little less fanfare. Directed by Anne Fletcher and released in 2022, it picks up 29 years since the Black Flame Candle was lit. Once again, the sisters return to wreak havoc in Salem on Halloween night and must be stopped by a new group of young heroes. Despite Midler, Parker and Najimy returning, many fans found the film to be a pure nostalgia grab rather than a worthwhile sequel. Hopefully, that won’t be the case with part 3.
At this time, there are no plot details for the third film.
Stay tuned to Dread for more details as we learn them.
