Xavier Gens, who came crashing into the horror scene with his visceral, ultra-violent French horror Frontier(s), is next directing the sci-fi survival thriller Homewrecker, reports Deadline.
Allison Williams (M3GAN) and Michelle Randolph (Scream 7) are set to star in a film that unfolds during a heartbreaking domestic revelation. Three star-crossed Americans are suddenly forced to work together to survive a terrifying, unexplained global event that threatens to destroy life as they know it.
The original screenplay is by Elisa Bell (Vegas Vacation) and Travis Gordon.
The project, which the producers have likened in spirit to Paramount sci-fi horror 10 Cloverfield Lane, is due to start production in France in mid-July of this year.
Gens recently directed Netflix’s hit shark movie Under Paris, while fellow French filmmaker Alex Aja will take over directing duties for its sequel.
“I’m thrilled to explore American mythology from a uniquely intimate point of view,” said Gens.
Allison Williams added: “I found the script riveting, and it had a depth that continued shifting and revealing itself as I read.”
“I was immediately drawn to how Homewrecker blends psychological tension with something deeply character-driven,” said Randolph. “It has a kind of intensity and unpredictability that makes it such a compelling project.”
Denise Di Novi (Crazy, Stupid, Love), Margaret French Isaac (Stepmom), and Oliver Scherick will produce for Di Novi Pictures, with John Zois (Greenland) and Warren Goz (The Marksman) producing for Parallel 42 Entertainment. Williams will also executive produce.
Michael Rothstein and Samuel Hall will executive produce for North.Five.Six, which is launching sales at the Cannes market. CAA Media Finance and UTA Independent Film Group will co-represent domestic rights.
