Shudder and Greg Nictotero have re-designed the “Tales from the Crypt” Crypt Keeper puppet, and it’s giving me hope for something bigger…
The entirety of the legendary horror anthology series, “Tales from the Crypt“, is streaming on Shudder now. Fans like me had been waiting forever for the show to finally become available to stream. The move marks a tremendous moment for both fans of the series, and the horror genre in general. Why? Because it has the opportunity to bring in a legion of new fans to one of the most iconic and influential horror series of all time. This morning, Shudder is celebrating in a cool way that gives me hope for something greater.
Over on IG, the streamer’s official account posted photos of Greg Nicotero (showrunner of their “Creepshow” series and master monster makeup maker), with a new Crypt Keeper puppet designed by the man himself!
Originally voiced by John Kassir (also pictured below), everyone knows the Crypt Keeper. Even if you’ve never seen “Tales”, you’re likely very aware of the demented scary story slinger’s love of ghoulish puns.
What makes my bones want to leap out of my skin over this news? Well, it has sparked new hope in me that Shudder may be working on a brand new “Tales from the Crypt”, a property that has long struggled to rise from the grave. Remember the M. Night Shyamalan take that almost happened?
Now, that’s just my speculation. I have no information on this, and it’s still highly unlikely. But, with Joe Bob Briggs and “The Last Drive-In” closing down, perhaps Shudder will look to a different sort of horror host to keep those live-streaming parties going. How would you feel about that, ghouls and boils?
For now, stream “Tales from the Crypt” on Shudder, and get a look at the new puppet below!
