There’s something inherently creepy about dusty VHS tapes, forgotten local legends, and the idea that maybe those ghost stories were true all along. That’s exactly the territory explored by Southern Scares, a new PG-rated mystery-horror adventure arriving on VOD June 16.
Set in the 1990s and filmed partly in camcorder-style found footage, Southern Scares blends kid-friendly mystery with supernatural chills. The film has been described as a mash-up of Goosebumps charm and The Blair Witch Project tension, following young creators as they chase legends from across the United States that suddenly become terrifyingly real.
“Mystery, horror, and Southern folklore collide in the 1990s when a video store worker uncovers chilling secrets hidden in her missing sister’s documentary series, Southern Scares.”
The film stars horror icon Dee Wallace (E.T., The Howling, The Frighteners) alongside Aston Regan of the Regan Bros YouTube channel, which boasts more than four million subscribers.
Southern Scares hits TVOD on June 16th and AVOD/SVOD on July 7th (Amazon, AppleTV, YouTube Movies, and TUBI).
