Focus Features Chairman Claims Robert Eggers’ ‘Werwulf’ is “On a Whole Other Level”
Focus Features Chairman Peter Kujawski had some exciting words for Robert Eggers’ next film ‘Werwulf’ that have us howling.
Two things I love in this world…werewolves, and Robert Eggers (The Witch) when he’s on his A-game. Recent comments have me wanting to get up and howl at the moon until my vocal chords pop, because it sounds like his next film, Werwulf, is a perfect marriage of both.
While speaking to Letterboxd, Focus Features Chairman Peter Kujawski had some exciting words to describe the filmmaker’s latest.
“I promise you, Werwulf is on a whole other level,” said Kujawski. “No one has seen a movie that looks or feels like this movie does. To deliver the scares that this movie does, but also deliver a really, really intimate portrait of the experience of a werewolf—the emotional experience of a man going through that curse. It’s not just a plot device for Rob. It is a question of the foundational nature of man in the world. That monsters can exist, and the horror of living is so felt and present in this movie, that I really think audiences are gonna respond on a whole other level when they discover what he’s made.”
As someone who has seen virtually every werewolf film in existence, I cannot properly express just how giddy those comments have me. It feels like its been forever since we’ve had a legitimately terrifying yet profound and emotional werewolf movie. If Werwulf is truly that, it’s going to be my favorite movie of the year. Sorry, Obsession.
The Witch star Ralph Ineson reteams with Eggers on the Focus Features horror film that also stars Aaron Taylor-Johnson, Lily-Rose Depp, Willem Dafoe, and Bodhi Rae Breathnach.
