Stephen King Gave this New Hit Horror Film a B+ but “Can’t Stop Thinking About It”
We at Dread are always curious to hear what Stephen King thinks of the latest horror films & he can’t stop thinking about this hit new film.

I, like many other horror babies of the 80s/90s, was raised on Stephen King. Christine was my first horror film. Desperation was my first adult horror novel. I cannot understatement the impact he’s had on my life, and the genre as a whole. Agree or disagree with him, when he speaks on horror, we listen. And Mr. King has a take on everyone’s latest obsession that may have some of you saying, “no, no, no, no”.
Said King on Threads, “I gave Obsession a B+ in my movie book, but I keep thinking about it. That weird mixture of humor and horror.”
Before you get mad at him for not calling Obsession a masterpiece, A+ movie, consider that a B+ is still a damn good rating. And as King admits himself, he can’t stop thinking about it, acknowledging the film’s expert blend of humor and horror.
If anything, I appreciate a guy like King not quite going along with the overflowing praise that myself and others have been spilling over one of the most successful indie horror films of all time. For one, everyone agreeing is always boring. Plus, it opens up the conversation of, is Obsession “perfect”, or did I just really fucking enjoy it?
I don’t know about you, but I’d always rather be discussing different viewpoints of a film rather than just shouting at each other how great it was. Life’s more interesting that way.
Either way, King’s a fan. We here at Dread are fans. The majority of audiences are fans. And Obsession is once again reminding studios that original horror makes money. We all win.
In Curry Barker‘s film, after breaking the mysterious “One Wish Willow” to win his crush’s heart, a hopeless romantic (Michael Johnston) finds himself getting exactly what he asked for but soon discovers that some desires come at a dark, sinister price.
Obsession features Inde Navarrett’s breakout role: “Her ghoulishness has all the makings of a newly minted horror icon. I’m not exaggerating when I say this performance is genuinely startling,” “Think of Mikey Madison’s fireworks in , then imagine she’s been bitten by a Deadite suffering from the world’s worst migraines. Her suffering is nearly as frightening as the suffering she enacts on the world around her. It’s a revelation.”
