Australian filmmaker Julius Avery (The Pope’s Exorcist) is about to bring a whole new meaning to the phrase “crushing it”, as he has been tapped to direct the giant python movie Crush for 20th Century Studios, reports Deadline.
The news comes after John Fischer‘s spec script was snatched up last fall during a multi-studio bidding war.
Though we still don’t have official plot details, the outlet notes that “sources said the film follows a woman hiking alone in the Everglades who wakes to find herself trapped in the crushing coils of a massive python, fighting to stay alive as every breath brings her closer to death.”
Deadline also mentions that the film is inspired by true events and told primarily in real time.
A real-time python horror movie with a woman struggling to escape its grasp? Now that sounds intense!
Scott Glassgold will produce for his 12:01 Films alongside Temple Hill. J.R. Young will oversee for 20th Century Studios.
