The story follows Erica Slaughter, a mysterious monster hunter who travels from town to town investigating disappearances that local authorities can’t explain. The terrifying twist is that the monsters are real—but only children can truly see them. Adults either can’t perceive the creatures or refuse to believe they exist until it’s far too late.
As the series has evolved, it’s expanded far beyond its original premise, exploring the secretive House of Slaughter, the Order of St. George, Erica’s past, and the mythology behind the monsters themselves.
The series remains ongoing and is approaching one of its biggest milestones.
Issue #49 was just released this week, setting the stage for the landmark 50th issue later this year. Publisher solicitations describe #49 as the final chapter before that milestone, with the current storyline leading directly into what promises to be a major turning point for the series.
Despite nearing issue #50, there doesn’t appear to be an end in sight. BOOM! Studios has previously committed to at least 100 issues, meaning Erica Slaughter’s story is still only around the halfway point.
