Ti West & Johnny Depp are bringing the chills this November with the trailer for ‘Ebenezer: A Christmas Carol’, based on Dickens’ classic.
After a day of teasing Johnny Depp in the lead role, Paramount has finally dropped a trailer for the latest adaptation of Charles Dickens’ classic 1843 novella A Christmas Carol in Ebenezer: A Christmas Carol. And it looks like it’s going to go heavy on the darkness of the tale.
Directed by Ti West (X) from a script by Nathaniel Halpern, the “bold new twist” on the Dickens tale follows Ebenezer Scrooge, a miserly businessman who is visited by the ghosts of Christmas Past, Present, and Yet to Come, forcing him to confront his life and ultimately change his ways.
Rupert Grint, Andrea Riseborough, Sam Claflin, Daisy Ridley, Arthur Conti, Ellie Bamber, Charlie Murphy, Tramell Tillman, and Ian McKellen also star.
Described as a dark reimagining, the trailer below conveys a more quirky tone with Depp in the title role. That said, it appears as if West is leaning heavily into the horror of the story, with multiple (creepy) ghosts like the one pictured above creeping throughout. I was hoping West would bring his talent for the genre into it, and it looks like he didn’t disappoint on that end.
Emma Watts produced the film, while executive producers included David Reid, Adam Bohling, Stephen Deuters, Jason Forman, West, Pete Chiappetta, Anthony Tittanegro, and Andrew Lary.
Ebenezer: A Christmas Carol brings the chills to theaters on November 13th via Paramount, in association with Domain Entertainment.
