First Poster for Robert Eggers’ ‘Werwulf’ Is a Stunning Throwback to Classic Horror

After the release of the first trailer, Focus Features has finally unveiled the first official poster for Robert Eggers’ hotly anticipated Werwulf… and it’s every bit as haunting as you’d expect.

The striking one-sheet features what appears to be Aaron Taylor-Johnson writhing beneath a full moon as his body twists into a monstrous transformation. Bathed almost entirely in black and gray, the poster embraces a stark, old-school horror aesthetic that feels less like modern studio marketing and more like something that could have been hanging outside a theater decades ago. It’s instantly memorable.

If you’ve been following our coverage, Werwulf has quickly become one of our most anticipated horror films of the year. Eggers has described it as “a medieval werewolf movie” and “the darkest thing I have ever written,” while Focus Features chairman Peter Kujawski recently claimed the film is “on a whole other level,” promising audiences a werewolf movie unlike anything they’ve seen before.

Set in 13th-century England, Werwulf follows a community terrorized by a mysterious creature as folklore begins to manifest into reality. The film stars Aaron Taylor-Johnson, Willem Dafoe, Lily-Rose Depp, Ralph Ineson, and Bodhi Rae Breathnach, reuniting Eggers with several frequent collaborators following Nosferatu.
